| Heavy Duty V.
Medium Duty Hardware |
|
Boxer
shipping cases can be built in one of two basic hardware styles - Heavy
Duty (recessed latches, handles etc, ball corners) and Medium Duty
(surface-mount hardware, flat corners) Case walls, extrusions and
interiors are identical on either style of case |

|
| Similarities |
- Case panels can
be cut from 1/8 or 1/4" fluted plastic or plywood with a laminate
covering, or with honeycomb ABS
material
- Case hardware is made of durable nickel-plated steel (some medium duty
hardware, such as our attaché handle, is made of plastic)
- A tongue and groove style extrusion adds strength to the case opening
(split line) and prevents entry of dust or moisture
- An aluminum edge extrusion has internal and external "legs"
for extra strength, and is glued in place - for details on gluing

- Interiors are installed with a water based, low-toxin contact cement or industrial
adhesive, ensuring your valuables will be protected for years to come
- Features like Recessed casters, silk-screening,
and water-resistant seals are available
on both heavy and medium duty cases. |
| Differences |
- Heavy duty
hardware is recessed behind the large ball corners of the case. This means
that latches, handles and clamps are removed from harms way, and normally
suffer little in the way of shipping damages. Medium Duty hardware sits
proud of the case (typically by 1-2") and being surface mount, is
easier and less labour intensive for us to install.
- Heavy Duty hardware is typically built tougher than medium-duty hardware
- thicker steel is used, larger rivets hold the hardware to the case,
mechanisms are designed to take commercial transport abuse.
- Heavy duty cases are available in 1/4" (std.) or 1/2" fluted
plastic or plywood for
extra durability, 1/2" being recommended for most larger cases. 1/8" material is not
recommended for heavy duty cases, as a shipping application requiring
durable hardware ,likely also requires a durable case.
- Medium duty cases typically cost 25-35% less than their heavy duty
counterparts.
- Medium duty cases are lighter than heavy duty cases - contact
us for an estimated weight on the case you wish to order. Note that
most Boxer cases are lighter than our competitors similar-looking cases, due
to our abilities to cnc machine plastic panels, rather than using
traditional plywood.. |
| Uses |
Select heavy duty cases
for all commercial transport applications, or any use where the case
exterior is likely to be handled roughly. Medium duty cases are
ideal for sales kits, or demo applications - anywhere that external abuse
will be minimal, but substantial protection is still required for
delicate products.
